vladrock 2005
vlad rock 2005: the butchers, the memphis morticians, the ghastly skulls, hillbilly werewolf, gein and the graverobbers.
i went to this show put on by a thing called vlad rock...it's like...a mini-fest thing, where great rocknroll bands play while monster movies play behind them. it's pretty much a big party. people are always throwing handfuls of candy and plastic creatures (lizards, spiders, bats, etc) into the audience. this year there was a pinata. it was pretty neat actually.
the butchers: a fun band from PA. they wear bloody butchers aprons and each member smears some blood on himself. i especially liked the guitarist who had it smeared around his mouth like a little boy who got into a choclate stash and ate it when he wasn't supposed to.
the memphis morticians: fun psychobilly from NY. i made friends with the standup bass player, pete. he gave me a free shirt. i had a crush on him, both before and after that.
the ghastly skulls: at this point in the nite, i was sitting in the theater seats falling asleep. i couldn't help myself.
hillbilly werewolf: i found in an interview that hillbilly werewolf (the man) once explained this as his reason for starting the band: "I STARTED DOING HILLBILLY WEREWOLF BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT THERE NEEDED TO BE A GUY IN A ZOMBIE SUIT PLAYING ROCK N ROLL." haha fucking great. he sings some of his set with a pair of those hillbilly teeth in, which really makes me giggle, and he howls a lot. plus, when i saw him he covered "let's have a party" by wanda jackson, "rockin this joint tonite" by kid thomas AND "i'm ready" by my boyfriend, fats domino!
gein and the graverobbers: these guys are good, but instrumental has a hard time keeping my attention.
