moondog coronation ball 2005
moondog coronation ball 2005 lineup: eric burden/the animals, micky dolenz/the monkees, peter noone/herman's hermits, three dog night.
eric burden of the animals: i was actually kinda excited to see eric burden. but it ended up that i was SO embarassed for him! he didn't sound the same. he didn't sing his lyrics, but rather he shouted them all at us. he did a reggae version of "don't let me be misunderstood" and it was AWFUL. to top it all off, he didn't even do my favorite animals song, "don't let me down." even "house of the rising sun" didn't sound right.
micky dolenz: of course, we love micky and we love the monkees. we had a pair of closer seats that wmji sent me for having a radio show, so amy and i used those during micky's set. his sister coco came and sang a few of the songs with him. i didn't especially like it, but it was nice to finally see who she was after hearing so much about her in interviews and such. i knew that coco and micky were really close all through their childhood. i loved it when he covered lenny welch's "since i fell for you." we were surprised he didn't bring out his huge drum and play "randy scouse git." it almost made me and amy cry when he did "the girl i knew somewhere." the part that mike normally sings where you can hear him in the background say "my fingers are still burning from the last time" always gives me goosebumps. we thought for sure that we would get to meet micky, after the show, but he didn't sign autographs and we didn't get to =(
peter noone: peter noone is so funny and he is always a good time. his voice sounds exactly the same and it makes me have a crush on him even though he is an old man now. we were so glad he played "dandy" for us to laugh at!
three dog night: none of us (except our dads) especially wanted to see this band, although they do have a few songs that we like to laugh at. they played "just an old-fashioned love song" and of course we couldn't help but think of justin and his pirate eye patch. lucky for me and amy, they didn't play "eli's coming" because it would have scared the crap out of us in the dark!
this was the first year that we didn't dress up in our poodle skirts. we did find action jackson and give him hot trash shirts and magnets though. this was also my least favorite year i think, even though i love micky to death.
